When you hear the words ‘spiritual wellness’, what comes to mind? Many people think spiritual wellness refers to religion, others think of it as a form of meditation, and sometimes it’s even thought of as both.
The truth is, spiritual wellness is a completely personal matter. It involves values and beliefs that give purpose and meaning to our lives.
Yes, your spiritual wellness may be more along the lines of religion, while others are more along the lines of meditation. There is no right answer.
If you think about it, it is better to ponder the meaning of life for ourselves and to focus on improving ourselves, rather than having closed minds or becoming intolerant of others.
A person who has spiritual wellness will be tolerant of others, regardless of their beliefs and ideas.
When you see intolerant people ranting online about “THOSE DAMN PEOPLE”, then you know that spiritually, they are not well. If you have the ability to experience and integrate meaning and purpose into your life, and if you can connect with yourself, and with art, music, literature, and nature, then you have spiritual wellness.
If you cannot, don’t worry. There’s no time like the present to take action towards spiritual wellness. Let’s assess where you are now. Grab a pen and notepad and let’s get started.
-
What do you do to relieve stress?
If your answer is ‘nothing’, then maybe it’s time you took up some new hobbies, such as walking in nature, meditation, or yoga.
-
How do you define spiritual wellness?
Remember, there’s no right or wrong answer. This is a personal thing, so go with what feels natural to you.
-
What is important to you?
Because spiritual wellness is different for everyone, I again, do not have a right or wrong answer for you. Look within and find out what makes you spiritually happy and at peace with the world around you.
-
What do you do, or practice, to help in finding your center?
Perhaps it’s yoga. Or praying. Or hiking. Or walking. Where do you turn when you are feeling lost and wanting to find your way back to yourself?
-
Do you feel grounded?
Right now, where you are at, how do you feel? Do you feel grounded and connected to something bigger than yourself like the earth, the universe, or perhaps God?
-
Do you have a place to turn to when life is closing in?
